Kansas City GM IndecisivePizza Strives to Make Super Bowl Roster, Teach Andy Reid the Concept of the 2 Minute Drill

Kansas City, MO - Newly hired Chiefs General Manager IndecisivePizza met with the press today in his introductory press conference. After thanking the Hunt family for the opportunity and discussing his excitement for his new role, IndecisivePizza began answering questions, starting with his history.

"I got into this business on a whim," he began. "Last year a friend of mine called me up and was like, 'Hey, you want a job? The GM for Tampa Bay rage quit after finding out that the Bucs were going to fire Lovie Smith at the end of the year. No one wants this job.' That's how I got my first GM gig, and I loved it." So why did the Chiefs think Pizza was capable of going from the disastrous Bucs to the almost Super Bowl Caliber Chiefs? In response to this question, IndecisivePizza chuckled and winked at the reporter. "I was the only one they interviewed who showed up 5 minutes early."

The press moved on by tackling some strategy questions. Pizza expressed his urgency in providing the finishing touches to this team. "This team is built to win. We're pretty solid across the board. Frankly I could do nothing and this team would still make noise in the playoffs. But this team can, and this fanbase deserves, their first super bowl trophy in 47 years."

"We're gonna be aggressive in free agency. Unlike my last effort in Tampa, this team doesn't need a total rebuild, so we're going to focus our cap space on getting a few stud players to round out the roster. We can use draft picks for trade bait and filling out the roster. But we're going to be bold this offseason."

The Chiefs go into the off-season with a moderate amount of cap space, thanks to years of solid management by John Dorsey. "We have money to spend, and I hate older teams. We're going to get younger, we're going to get better." Pizza interrupted the next question to add, "Alright guys, time for the two minute drill."

When asked about if he's talked to Andy Reid and the way this season ended, Pizza chuckled, "Clearly this team should've beaten the Patriots. I have no doubt about that. I've talked to Andy and he seemed a little unclear about the concept of the 2 minute drill, and I just told him that with the 2 minute drill you need to move down the field in score in the same time it takes Andy Reid to order delivery food. I'm 100% confident that this coaching staff will not make any egregious errors this upcoming year."

He then closed the press conference as the clock expired, having managed his time perfectly. In his efforts last year he did well in some cases, brining in the likes of Aqib Talib, Geno Atkins, Brandon Marshall, Jerraud Powers, and Chris Ivory, and also missed in some efforts, brining in Jadeveon Clowney, Stevie Brown, and an extremely injury prone draft class.

Had a great time at your press conference today. I certainly wasn't in town meeting with any of your players or anything. No way.

The Chiefs Introduce Mike Harris to the Team!

1 year, $4,250,000

The Kansas City Chiefs welcome guard Mike Harris to the franchise.

Andy Reid and I both agreed that our offensive line needed some work. Simply put most of our lineman aren’t starting material, and retooling the offensive line was one of our top priorities.

Harris was one of the guards we particularly liked going into free agency. At 6’ 5” and 338 pounds, his big and strong. He had a breakout year, ranking as the 23rd best guard by PFF. He’s consistent and solid, and at 27 years old we expect to have Harris man our right guard position for years to come.

This is the first of many moves to come, to make this roster the best in football.

The Chiefs Introduce Brent Grimes to the Team!

1 year, $7,000,000

The Kansas City Chiefs welcome cornerback Brent Grimes to the franchise.

Andy Reid and I both recognized that we have a few free agents who are vital to the successes of this team, but are just too expensive to afford, first and foremost cornerback Sean Smith, who was integral in raising DROY Marcus Peters, and was in his own right a fantastic CB. Odds are we simply couldn't afford to have him back.

We couldn't have been more right. With lesser defensive backs such as George Iloka and Casey Hayward going for 11.5 and 11 mil, it has become evident that Smith, who is probably the top corner on the market, will certainly go for more than 10 mil and probably is going to get closer to 15 million.

As such, we've been on the lookout for a top notch corner to pair with Marcus Peters, and now we've found our man. Grimes, who is 32, still is a premier corner in this league, and while his 2015 wasn't as good as his 2014, he still showed flashes of his near DPOY talent in 2015, and he spent 2015 with next to no secondary help, sans Reshad Jones. Plus, we stole him at half of what the top FA corners will go for.

Alongside Peters, Berry, Parker, Gaines and Nelson, Grimes will slide in and dominate as our 2nd corner, no longer paired with inadequate teammates, and his veteran experience will continue to help our Peters.

This signing gives us one of the best secondaries in football, and we expect to go far with Grimes. In addition to the money, this contract requires that Miko Grimes' phone background be changed to a picture of Eric Berry while undergoing chemotherapy, since no one is that evil.

The Chiefs Introduce Victor Cruz to the Team!

1 year, $3,750,000

The Kansas City Chiefs welcome wide receiver Victor Cruz to the franchise.

I've got to admit, I was a little surprised on this one. Having been a Giants fan before taking this job I fondly remember the days of the Salsa. But this is a 29 year old slot receiver who hasn't played a game since 2014. We've seen this before with Wes Welker, who went from the best of the best to nothing, in the blink of an eye.

The other day I woke up, and went into the office, and I had my daily meeting with Andy. We went over some scouting stuff, our thoughts on the combine, the available free agents. He was again attempting the 72 Oz. Steak Challenge, having gotten his time down to 67 minutes. As the meeting was wrapping up I mentioned that the Giants had cut Victor Cruz, mostly as an afterthought.

Andy actually stopped eating. He dropped his silverware.

"Make him a Chief"

I kind of looked at him funny, not quite comprehending what just happened. He took a sip of his glass of milk, and gave me this look. If Andy Reid was capable of being frenzied or energetic, this would be what he looked like.

"I want Victor Cruz on this team. Get him for me."

The fan in me was throwing a little party, but the GM in me was entirely bemused. I had to dissuade him.

"Andy, the guy hasn't played a game since 2014. He's coming off of multiple major injuries. He belongs in a junkyard, not a #2 receiver."

"I've faced the man 5 times. He caught 32 balls, for 563 yards, and 6 tds. He's our guy"

I wasn't sure what was more unbelievable: that Andy Reid knew those stats perfectly, that he could do that math in his head, or that he really wanted Victor Cruz. But coach's mind was made, so I had to get our man. He downed the glass of milk, and got up to leave and go to the weight room, to work on his hand strength. I tried to play devil's advocate one last time.

"I've only got 19 million left, Andy. I can't go all out on the guy."

"If he gets past 4 mil let him go. Otherwise he's ours." And like that he left for the day.

Turns out Andy has an excellent nose for these sorts of things. We asked 5 scouts and execs around the league for what they'd restructure Cruz's contract to be (as if he was never cut), and this is what we came up with:

Source #1 – 1 year, $3M with incentives
Source #2 – Keep current $8M contract
Source #3 – Nothing, he'll never play again
Source #4 – 1 year, $4M with incentives
Source #5 – 1 year, $4.5M with incentives

The second source felt they could just cut him at a later date if needed. All in all it averages out to about 1 year, 4 mil. Just like Andy said.

So yeah, we may be out of our minds. But like we said at the beginning of the year, this team is so close to making, and competing for the Super Bowl, and that is what we intend to make this team. If that means we spend 3.75 mil on a guy who hasn't played in 2 years, so be it. If he is 50% of what he once was it'll still be better value than Anquan Boldin, Rueben Randle, Travis Benjamin, and Mike Wallace (what happened with Mohamed Sanu exactly? Did all of us just not realize how much lesser WR's would go for?). If he's 80% or more of what he was, this is the steal of free agency, and if he's nothing, then it's a gamble that didn't pay.

We expect Victor to be our starting slot receive for Week 1, backed by Percy Harvin. Welcome Victor!
